Molecular PathologyMolecular pathology facilitates disease diagnosis
As a result of our growing knowledge base of human genes and their role and function in pathology, we have moved toward molecular characterization of human disease. Advanced molecular technologies improve patient care by confirming diagnoses based on clinical observations more quickly. In many cases, molecular techniques allow identification of genetic abnormalities that would not be detected by other methods. Molecular genetic studies are being incorporated as an integral component in diagnosis, even when a diagnosis can be established by other means. Feist-Weiller Cancer Center works in close cooperation with the Molecular Pathology Laboratory at LSUHSC Shreveport. This lab is advancing optimal patient care using an integrated, multidisciplinary approach. Patients benefit from the comprehensive diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic information generated by state-of-the-art diagnostic testing and consultative services. Three areas of testing include genetics, hematopathology, and infectious disease. Our Molecular Pathology laboratory specializes in the areas of genetics and hematopathology. Lab Tests |
